UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE BIOGRAPHERS’ CLUB

The Biographers’ Club is now calling in entries for this year’s Slightly Foxed Best First Biography Prize, worth £2,500, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Slightly Foxed, The Real Reader’s Quarterly.

The Prize will be awarded to the best book by a first-time biographer, as chosen by our panel of judges.

Only entries submitted by publishers will be accepted for consideration. Literary memoirs are also eligible, but the following genres are NOT eligible: celebrity autobiographies and ghostwritten books.

To qualify, the books must have a publication date between 1st January 2018 and 31st December 2018 (proofs are acceptable) and the author must be resident in the UK. Four copies of each book should be submitted no later than 1st November 2018 (please enclose press release to confirm publication date) along with an entry form (see below) and entry fee of £25 per title. Books should be sent by post, not courier, to: The Slightly Foxed Best First Biography Prize, c/o Jane Mays, 21 Marsden Street, London NW5 3HE.

The fee of £25 per title additionally entitles the author to a year’s membership of the Biographers’ Club.

NB: Submissions received without entry form or fee will be discounted.

The prize will be awarded at a party in March 2019.

Conditions of entry

Publishers must arrange for the short-listed authors to be at the prize-giving party if at all possible; if not, a statement/video link to be provided. Publishers must agree that the winning title will be stickered if at all possible (the Biographers’ Club to bear the costs). Publishers to agree that the winner of the prize writes a feature for Slightly Foxed (to be paid for).
