AN EVENING WITH KEGGIE CAREW
Dadland: A Journey Into Uncharted Territory
Winner of the 2016 Costa Biography Prize
Biographers’ Club dinner at the Coopers Arms, Chelsea
Monday 15th May
Keggie Carew’s prize-winning memoir is about her quest to learn the full story of her father, a charismatic, enigmatic figure who had been a decorated guerilla fighter during the Second World War. Having started to spend more time with him again following the death of a disliked stepmother, Carew realised that he was starting to show the symptoms of dementia, and she began her investigations in earnest.
Biographers’ Club members will be aware that this mix of memoir and biography is in vogue at the moment, and that Keggie Carew’s book is one of the most acclaimed examples of the genre.
“How lovely to discover a book that makes one seize friends by the lapels and implore them, ‘Read this’” Valerie Grove in the Literary Review)
“Dadland is no tragedy, threaded as it is with forgiveness, love and a fine, fierce comic glitter” (Jane Shilling, Telegraph).
